Job Purpose: The Airfield Specialist supports the Assistant Airfield Manager by providing expert knowledge and services to ensure efficient and safe airfield operations. This role involves reviewing completed work, ensuring compliance with airfield maintenance and safety standards, and providing technical expertise for airfield construction and maintenance projects. The Airfield Specialist assists in planning and developing airfield improvements, provides updates on ongoing projects, and offers recommendations on future initiatives. Additionally, the role includes briefing maintenance and airfield personnel on operations, radio usage, and communication procedures to maintain seamless operations.
Responsibilities
Recommend policies concerning the establishment and improvement of airfield support activities and airfield management procedures in support of military and civilian operations.
Participate in the airfield Foreign Object Damage (FOD) program and the evaluation of all waivers that affect the airfield and flying operations with the Public Works Department and the Safety Department.
Prepare weekly FOD sweeping schedule for Government Approval.
Assist with the Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Program, Integrate Natural Resource Management Plan, and other applicable instructions. Review and update program as needed in accordance with NAVFAC.
Provide technical assistance to the Assistant Airfield Manager concerning accidents.
Attend all security meetings affecting airfield operations and provide information to NSA Security Officer or Operations Officer, concerning the security of the airport and its support activities. This includes security projects involving operations around and on the airfield.
Monitor airfield areas daily via direct visual inspection to prevent unsafe conditions and ensure continued use of facilities. Determine hazards to personnel proposing work on the airfield to include safety/security requirements and other procedures to be followed in performing their work. Record all unsafe activities and events/conditions conflicting with applicable NSA instructions
Assist in planning and inspecting airfield improvements, repairs, and continuing operations. Provide technical recommendations to the Operations Officer, Air Operations (AO) Officer, and COR on all upcoming projects, and status updates for ongoing projects.
Communicate with flying tenants units to develop/provide understanding of flight line support requirements ensuring each command has the ability to maintain the highest degree of readiness. Assist the tenant commands with flight line facilities issues.
Provide administration and imbursement needed to obtain the required airfield driver training associated with Gulf Aviation Academy (GAA). Airfield training is required for initial airside operator training and must be renewed every five years. This requirement shall not exceed thirty (30) Airfield personnel training events per year.
Prepare, maintain, and update a daily parking plan to meet airflow requirements and airfield restrictions in coordination in accordance with airfield management principles.
Requirements:
Four (4) assisting the AFM in daily operations of the airfield.
Department of Defense Advanced Airfield Managers Course graduate or FAA preferred.
Demonstrated expert knowledge of military airfield functions
Demonstrated expert knowledge of UFC, ICAO, and FAA Circular Guidelines
Demonstrated informational briefing preparation and presentation skills to large groups and senior level officers
Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver point/position papers
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office 2007 Suite to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Active DOD SECRET clearance or ability to obtain
