Senior Systems Engineer- Infrastructure Lead
Job Purpose:
The Senior Systems Engineer serves as the technical lead for enterprise infrastructure supporting a secured environment. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, configuring, and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, virtualized environments, clustered networking, storage systems, and related infrastructure. The role also leads cybersecurity compliance efforts involving Security Technical Implementation Guides, vulnerability scanning, patch management, and Department of Defense security requirements.

The Senior Systems Engineer serves as the technical lead for enterprise infrastructure supporting a secured environment. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, configuring, and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, virtualized environments, clustered networking, storage systems, and related infrastructure. The role also leads cybersecurity compliance efforts involving Security Technical Implementation Guides, vulnerability scanning, patch management, and Department of Defense security requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of enterprise hardware and software systems.
- Analyze technical requirements and develop system specifications that support operational and mission needs.
- Configure and maintain switched Ethernet networking environments using IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.
- Support clustered switching environments, including Virtual Switching Extension configurations.
- Configure, implement, manage, and monitor Windows Server 2019 through 2025 environments.
- Administer Active Directory, Domain Name System, Group Policy, and supported client protocols.
- Manage Windows and Linux servers within Hyper-V and VMware virtualized environments.
- Administer computational cluster environments and related cluster management systems.
- Support Storage Area Networks, fibre channel connectivity, InfiniBand interconnections, batch scheduling, and cluster-monitoring tools.
- Perform hardware and software troubleshooting, performance tuning, and system optimization.
- Implement automated patch-management processes for Microsoft systems using Windows Server Update Services.
- Configure, implement, and manage a local certificate authority.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate system-administration activities.
- Coordinate organizational compliance with Department of the Navy and Department of Defense information-security requirements.
- Implement and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guide requirements.
- Use security and compliance tools such as Assured Compliance Assessment Solution, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Security Technical Implementation Guide Viewer, and Security Content Automation Protocol scanners.
- Support Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure requirements using tools such as ActivClient, Centrify, and CAC Key.
- Maintain technical documentation, system records, security configurations, and standard operating procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in hardware and software requirements analysis, system specification, implementation, configuration, and testing.
- Extensive experience administering Windows and Linux server environments.
- Demonstrated experience with Active Directory and Domain Name System administration.
- Experience with Hyper-V and VMware virtualization technologies.
- Experience administering computational clusters, storage networks, fibre channel, and InfiniBand environments.
- Strong knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, switched Ethernet networking, and clustered switching.
- Expertise implementing Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides.
- Familiarity with Naval Research Laboratory Security Technical Implementation Guide requirements.
- Experience using Assured Compliance Assessment Solution, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Security Technical Implementation Guide Viewer, and Security Content Automation Protocol scanning tools.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.
- Experience with Windows Server Update Services and automated patch management.
- Experience administering Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools.
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert certification is desired but not required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
