Senior Information Technology Systems Engineer– Systems and Security Operations

Job Purpose:
The Senior Information Technology Systems Engineer manages day-to-day systems, security, and user-support operations within a secure Department of Defense environment. This role leads technical-support activities involving ticket resolution, endpoint troubleshooting, system patching, vulnerability remediation, incident response, and compliance with Department of Defense cybersecurity requirements. The position serves as a senior escalation point for complex systems and security issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead daily systems-administration, cybersecurity, and technical-support activities.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex hardware, software, endpoint, and application issues.
  • Administer Windows, macOS, and Linux systems and servers.
  • Provide technical support to end users and resolve assigned service tickets.
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot operating systems and applications.
  • Implement and maintain Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides.
  • Review and remediate Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts.
  • Perform vulnerability scanning and compliance validation using Assured Compliance Assessment Solution and Security Content Automation Protocol tools.
  • Support cybersecurity incident-response activities and escalate security concerns when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot endpoint communication, application, authentication, and access issues.
  • Implement and maintain Windows Administrative Templates and Group Policy configurations.
  • Support Active Directory, user accounts, system permissions, and related administrative functions.
  • Perform system backups, recovery planning, restoration, and continuity-support activities.
  • Administer Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools, including ActivClient, Centrify, and CAC Key.
  • Maintain patch schedules and ensure systems remain current with approved security updates.
  • Track technical incidents, vulnerabilities, corrective actions, and resolution status.
  • Maintain system records, user-account databases, host inventories, and security documentation.
  • Develop and update technical procedures, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity personnel, system owners, and technical teams to resolve issues.
  • Support continuous improvement through analysis of service-ticket trends, recurring problems, and security findings.
Education and Experience:
  • Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience administering Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
  • Demonstrated experience providing help-desk, systems-administration, or security-operations support.
  • Experience implementing Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guides and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts.
  • Experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution and Security Content Automation Protocol scanning.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity incident-response and vulnerability-remediation activities.
  • Experience troubleshooting endpoints, applications, user accounts, and network communications.
  • Knowledge of Windows Administrative Templates and Group Policy.
  • Experience with Department of Defense Common Access Card Public Key Infrastructure tools.
  • Familiarity with Naval Research Laboratory Security Technical Implementation Guide requirements.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, documentation, customer-service, and communication skills.
  • Security+, Information Technology Infrastructure Library, or comparable certifications are strongly valued but not required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
