Reprographic Technician

The purpose of this position is to maintain and operate the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) print shop and manage all its daily printing program requests. This role will also provide mission-critical support services in the areas of printing, reproduction and distribution
  • Fulfill reproduction job requests for agency personnel.
  • Arrange for repair and/or maintenance of print shop equipment
  • Escort any repair technicians who are sent to repair or maintain leased equipment
  • Replace, clean and maintain machines with manufacturer -supplied replacement parts and/or modules
  • Receive work via intake request process, electronic files on optical media (CDs, DVDs, shared network folders and secure flash drives), reproduction and print request files (comprised of both hard copies and digital files)
  • Review all requests to ensure all instructions and specifications are noted clearly on the NRC Form 20 “Request for Printing and Copying Services” or ADM’s request portal before printing any request
  • Acknowledge receipt of each requisition (NRC Form 20 or request portal) to all requestors before work begins via e-mail, electronic communication, telephone or in person.
  • Process each job in accordance with instructions submitted with request  
  • Generate a weekly report utilizing accurate data from the Printing Program tracking system and deliver them electronically to the COR
  • Duplicate/copy, save, and archive electronic files; Collate reproduced copies
  • Scan hard copies and produce editable PDFs from scans
  • Perform bindery functions (binding, cutting, stapling, folding, etc.)
  • Perform handwork in the form of, but not limited to:
    • Labeling
    • Folding
    • Paper/string/rubber banding
    • Counting
    • Stapling
    • Stacking
    • Boxing, weighing
    • Collation of materials, tabs, page dividers, special stock
    • GBC (comb) binding
    • 3-hole punch
    • Using paper cutter or hand box cutters
  • Notify the COR of any repair and maintenance requirements
  • Keep a repair and service log of each piece of equipment in the Print Shop
  • Prior to image processing, the contractor shall perform a basic check (pre-flight) of the furnished media and publishing files to ensure correct output of the required reproduction image. Any errors, media damage, or data corruption that might interfere with proper file image processing must
  • High School Diploma or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Ability to interface with graphic designers to resolve technical and file format issues
  • Knowledge of duplicating/copying in both black and full color
  • Ability to operate a wide range of bindery equipment
  • Ability to clean and maintain equipment and work area
  • Ability to identify equipment problems
  • Government’s records at all times
  • Knowledge of safety requirements of job and equipment, and use of chemicals
  • Ability to manage ever-changing and competing priorities and deadlines
  • Expert knowledge of Xerox® FreeFlow system or Fiery® Workflow Suite, including the ability to scan stored documents for future Print-on-Demand reprints
  • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 70 pounds and to sit or stand for long periods of time
