Job Purpose: The Assistant Airfield Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Airfield Manager and ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of airfield facilities. This position provides subject matter expertise and technical recommendations to the Commanding Officer, Operations Officer, and Airfield Operations Officer, contributing to the planning, development, and execution of airfield construction, maintenance, and improvement projects.
Responsibilities
Safety design and implementation of airfield procedures
Coordinate with Public Works to establish schedules to control height of vegetation on the airfield to overruns, approach surfaces, and the areas around airfield lighting.
Recommend policies concerning the establishment and improvement of airfield support activities and airfield management procedures in support of military and civilian operations.
Coordinate the development and application of base-wide operations plans supporting wartime operations, contingencies, aircraft accidents (both on and off base) and natural disasters.
Participate in the airfield Foreign Object Damage (FOD) program and the evaluation of all waivers that affect the airfield and flying operations with the Public Works Department and the Safety Department. Prepare weekly FOD sweeping schedule for Government Approval.
Implement and maintain a Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Program. Review and update program as needed in accordance with NAVFAC regulations.
Provide technical assistance to the Aviation Safety Office (ASO) concerning accidents, incidents, and hazards. Act as the liaison to the OPSO or ASO on matters with other armed forces, foreign military and civilian counterparts in developing joint operations requirements.
Attend all security meetings affecting airfield operations and provide information to officers, concerning the security of the airport and its support activities. This includes security projects involving operations around and on the airfield.
Identify the need for special projects and initiating milestones and goals.
Communicate with flying tenants to develop understanding of flight line support requirements so each command has the ability and capability to maintain the highest degree of readiness and assist the tenant commands with flight line facilities issues.
Provide comprehensive briefings, insight and recommendations to the Operations Officer and Air Operations Officer on all issues that arise from boards, committee meetings or the air department that may impact the base mission, operations, safety or good order and discipline.
Review completed work based on the thorough knowledge of airfield operations to include airfield maintenance, and safety standards.
Requirements:
Experienced Airfield Manager for a Department of Defense or FAA facility
Bachelor’s degree with experience as Airfield Manager for a Department of Defense facility or FAA Facility
Six (6) years of experience providing oversight of day-to-day airfield activities.
Demonstrated expert knowledge of military airfield functions
Demonstrated expert knowledge of UFC, ICAO, and FAA Circular Guidelines
Demonstrated informational briefing preparation and presentation skills to large groups and senior level officers
Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver point/position papers
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office 2007 Suite to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Active DOD SECRET clearance or ability to obtain no later that 15 calendar days prior to connecting Period of Performance
